🌷 Celebrating Mothers: A Peek into What Started the Celebration

On this wonderful day, we at the City’s Favorite Developer honor mothers, motherhood, maternal bonds, and the profound influence of mothers in society. We are most grateful to all mothers—your strength, sacrifice, and love shape our world every day.

šŸ’ The Origins of Mother’s Day

The modern celebration of Mother’s Day began in 1908 when Anna Jarvis organized a memorial for her mother, Ann Jarvis, a peace activist and community health advocate. Though several early observances were held—including annual meetings in Boston—Anna’s campaign for a national day to honor her mother’s legacy gained widespread traction.

Ann Jarvis had organized Mother’s Day Work Clubs to address public health and child-rearing issues. Anna, moved by her mother’s devotion, championed a broader celebration of mothers everywhere.

šŸ“œ From Tribute to Tradition

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day—a day for the public to express love and reverence for mothers across the country.

šŸ¤ A Bittersweet Legacy

Ironically, Anna Jarvis later became disillusioned by the commercial turn the holiday took. She regretted the involvement of greeting card and floral industries, feeling it detracted from the sincere spirit of honoring mothers’ sacrifices.
